This time,, from the killers point of view..
Finding an understandable motive for the letters and tape
requires going back a few years and considering
all that preceded the letters and tape..
They appeared to be random attacks and murders ,
but that does not mean there were no patterns,,
the Ripper case is rich with patterns,,
observable behaviour and tantalising puzzles..
Three great big gaps in time and an overall pattern
of escalation in the enquiry and public outrage..
Mirrored by a reduced incidence of the murders..??
There is a correlation between the increased publicity,
the increased manhunt,, the risks to the killer,,
and the incidence and choice of victims,, the places where
he chose to kill next,, it is all well worth thinking about
from a time line or sequence of events point of view..
The Cops wondered why he was so lucky..
But from his point of view things may not
have been going so well..
Certainly he seems to have returned at the beginning of 1977
with a calculated vendetta against drunken sluts and
good time girls,, killing and slashing his victims
in a manner that was reminiscent of the 1888 case..
Perhaps he had not deliberately set out to emulate the
original London Jack story,, but soon after his
return it became clear that a modern day moralistic
Jack Ripper copy-cat was on the loose.. With a car
the new Ripper could travel with ease on our motorways..
At first it was easy for him,, just pick up a working
lady and let her take you to a quiet place..
But he was not quite a truly random killer as yet..
He was targeting a specific group in society,, a group
of people already hardened by life's experience
and liable to become more cautious or take measure's
in their own defence..
Using a car was a perfect way of getting them
to a quiet place where he could do what he wished..
But the car comes with a huge drawback,,
those number plate's front and back
were a distinct liability in his line of work..
There is a lot of truth to be found in those
letters and tape albeit deliberately misleading..
One reference in particular may provide a clue
to what followed..
The third letter taunted Oldfield with a story about
a near miss while parked in his car with a hooker..
A Police car happened to check the lane
they were in and did nothing..
Perhaps they got his number,, one could not say,,
the girl advised him not to worry,
that they turned a blind eye..
She was a lucky girl if that story was true,
and I feel that it could very well be so,,
though not necessarily occurring
when he suggested..
That he was a calculating premeditated
and thinking executioner of unwary
working girls, I think is fair comment..
They were no longer frenzied uncontrolled
attacks,, the guy kept his cool until the
last moment and made a calculated decision
when it was safe to continue..
This element of his behaviour
has often been remarked on..
Perhaps he became aware of the prostitutes
coming under increased surveillance..
Observed an increased wariness from them also,,
it would only require one of their mates
or a hidden observer to to take down his number..
Of course he would be intensely aware of the
vulnerability which accompanies the use a car
in red light areas.. It's obvious innit..
I would bet that..
Word very quickly got round that the
Yorkshire Ripper was back..
Quite early in 1977 he found himself
considering the very real risk of his
number plate being recorded..
False number plates were just as chancy
and more likely to attract attention..
I'll bet he spent quite some time thinking
about this kind of stuff..
After all,, he was now a very premeditated
killer on a moralistic mission..
It is also possible that he walked through the red light
areas and hookers haunts,, even spoke with the girls
picking up local gossip... One survivor records that
he mentioned a couple of the girls by name...
Out and about surveying the effect of his jack ripper remake
he may have been disappointed with the results and spotted tha
adventure playground as they called it.. A ramshackle mess of
wooden structures ideal for his purpose,,
he required a little time and privacy with his victims
and that tatty play area was perfect from that point
of view..
Either way...
The next murder reflects that the place was spotted first,,,
that he went as a footsoldier in Reginald square,,
and that he left his car just outside of
the riskier red light area....
He changed his routine that night,, he said so in his letters...
In Reginald Square,, just off Chapeltown,,
a new method was devised which did not involve
exposing his car.. Yeah,, this man was thinking
a lot about what he was up to,, looking for opportunities
and taking precautions..
Reginald Square is a natural walkway twixt
Chapeltown and Scott Hall where his first
Leeds victim had lived..
A place had been pre-selected as suitable
for his purpose,, it is not a co-incidence
or by chance that the kiddies play area was
there.. It was spotted and identified as a
place where such an attack could successfully
be made..
Can you imagine a person walking
around town just looking for a place to kill,,,,
Nope,,, but it was more than that,, he was looking for
a place to kill AND inflict other injuries consistent with
his Jack Ripper remake..
He could have killed in many streets I suspect,,
but this guy had something else to do..
Someone going about town thinking of ways,,
looking for places,,windows of opportunity
it was more than just killing a person
he did not even know,,
it was what he did after and its effect on others
that was important to him
and he needed a place to do it..
It is an alien thought process to most people,,
myself included,, but anyone who takes an interest
in the Yorkshire Ripper,, should consider the
significance of picking the place before the victim..
It is important..
Saville Park,, Headingly,, Back Ashgrove,
A person had come to do more than just kill,,
and looked for the place where
it could be done first...
Controlling the risk of a victim screaming
or raising the alarm in the close proximity
of homes in quiet Reginald square is another
puzzle,, I do not address here,, but it
should be noted..
Perhaps he just got a new white car,,
a Cortina,, his pride and joy, who knows..
But he kept his car well out of sight that
night and found a new way to acquire
unsuspecting victims..
And it worked like a dream,,
another successful kill
in the very streets of Leeds..
Despite the fact they was after him..
He would have been rite pleased with himself
but for one thing,, she turned out to be
a lovely 16 year old shop girl on her way way
home from a night out,, her only connection with
vice was that she lived nearby and had to walk
home that way..
She had dallied with a young acquaintance
and was late coming home...
This would have been a big mistake from
the Rippers point of view at the time,,
his moralistic high ground had been ruined..
All that careful planning and thinking it through
had gone to waste on account of a pair of platform
shoes and a miniskirt,, clunking about too late at night,,
I'll bet he was mad as all hell,,
but he was a victim of his own prejudice that night,,
and it was the beginning of a run of bad luck for this man..
Got to give him his dues though,,
he did go back only two weeks later
and this time he selected an old girl,,
picked her up from a taxi rank,
and she was agreeable to his proposition,,
she went with him to a lonely spot for sex and money..
Twice that happened,, the youngest were
followed by the oldest,, it reflects a childish
balancing up nature in the man.
She really should have died that night
considering the injuries she suffered..
But Maureen was tough and she
miraculously beat the odds to survive
and was able to describe him,, and his car..
A fair haired man..
Oh yea,, the Ripper's run of luck had
turned sour big time..
Circumstances changed considerably in the wake
of the public outcry resulting from the
young girls death..
A colossal manhunt was now launched after him
and now they had his description too,,
and even knew what car he drove...
*
The Yorkshire Ripper killed only one prostitute in Yorkshire
after that night in Reginald Square..
Two in Greater Manchester but only one in Yorkshire..
Bet you never thought of it that way before,!
For the Yorkshire Ripper,,
his luck had changed
for the worse...
Yea,, Yorkie boy had a busy time in the early months of 77..
Between Feb and July he attacked four times in Yorkshire,,,
(Leeds and Bradford) but after Maureen Long beat the odds
to survive and describe him he did not return again until December...
Maureen described a man with long fair hair who was not a local man....
After the Jayne and Maureen carry on skewed things for him,,
I reckon he decided to lay off for a while,, things were were getting risky..
The young girls death had stirred things up quite a bit..
There was a lot more TV coverage, he probably got quite a
thrill from that,, like having his own tv show..
Listening to the cops plans and all the row-rah he caused
will have been a fascination for him, one can be certain..
So anyway,,
One should note that there is a pattern in Yorkshire of four
attacks in five months,, followed by a gap of five months
after he had been seen...
It marks a point where the incidence of attacks slowed down,,
paralleled by the increased news coverage and manhunt...
It appears that..
His caution increased in response to increased risks,,
it should also be noted that when he did return to Yorkshire,,
his luck was still running sour because this time Marilyn Moore
was lucky to survive,, he and his car was described again..
The white Cortina was gone and this time he was in
a maroon farina type saloon,,
Morris Oxford or Austin Cambridge were favourites..
It is interesting to note that he had not attempted
to kill again in Yorkshire until after
he changed his car or got another one..
It reflects how careful his behaviour was,,
very concious of the fact that he had been seen last time,,
he did not come back until he had a different car
thereby reducing his risks to a minimum....
Once again he was described as,, NOT A LOCAL MAN..
Maybe a Liverpudlian was suggested...

http://s867.photobucket.com/albums/ab239/rupert-bear-2010/Moureen%20and%20Marilyn/?action=view¤t=NotLocal.jpg
The original descriptions from these two girls are of particular importance
because there was no one else in a better position to describe their attacker,,
and those two lady's both said he was "Not a Local Man"...
NOT A LOCAL MAN.. Was reported by the two best witnesses..
This fact really needs to be more widely acknowledged...!
If you are familiar with the sequence of events,,
you might think I have missed one out..
The first Manchester victim,, Jean Royle,, or Scotch Jean
was killed three months after he was seen in Yorkshire
and two months before the Marilyn Moore attack in Leeds....
Well I am no word-smith,, I try to explain things the best way I can
I try to establish that the girls who knew best, said "he was not local man"
and that there is another curious little pattern to be found here...
"Not local",, "He talked Funnily",,, Maureen Long..
"Not Local" "Probably from Liverpool",,, Marilyn Moore..
You can bet that if either one of those girls spoke to a Geordie
or an Irishman for that matter,,
it would have been recorded and shouted from the rooftops long ago..
There was a big dispute about this in the weeks preceding Sutty;s arrest..
The fact is that they were all arguing about why that Geordie
could not be found and grasping at straws to explain the failure...
The argument was simplified down to the fact that the girls had not spoken
to a Geordie,, in the confusion of the argument of the day,,
often it was said that the girls spoke to a local man
when in fact they did not.... Other girls had been attacked by other men,,
their attacks had been eliminated from the series... There were only two who
had enough conversation with the Ripper to be able to tell...
Marilyn Moore and Maureen Long...
A very important clue was overlooked in the heat of a misguided argument...
They were both quite sociable lady's well able to recognise
the local accents from Leeds and Bradford and the surrounding area's..
But most important of all,, their descriptions of his accent
are the best clues available as to the true origins of the killer....
The UK has a long industrial, mill town,, mining town,, potteries,, heritage
where many localised and distinctly different accents can be found...
That Mrs Long should say "he talked funnily" is not in any way unreasonable,,
she simply refers to an accent she was not familiar with,, as did Marilyn,,
guessing a Liverpudlian accent but was not certain....
Scouse (Liverpudlian),, Geordie and Irish are all very well known accents,,
the local area accents would also be familiar to these girls....
So,, to sum up my evaluation here,,,
I would say that, on balance,, the information
from the two best witnesses they had,
suggests that the killers origin lay some distance to the SW,, of Leeds and Bradford,,
whereas information volunteered or left by the Ripper,, a calculating serial killer,,
points quite some distance in exactly the opposite direction,,, to the NE...
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dialects_of_the_English_language
Not so very far from Liverpool and Manchester there are
less well known and unique regional accents to be found.....
All of the information,, volunteered or left by the careful killer
rather curiously,, pointed in the opposite direction
from where the surviving victims indicated....???
The man who attacked these girls would know that he
sounded quite different from the locals in Yorkshire...
Maureen and Marilyn described this man,, Marilyn said,, maybe
Liverpudlian,, in Dec 77,,,,,,
In March 78 letters began to arrive,, posted from Sunderland...
I try to describe a killer who clearly was careful to avoid
unnecessary risks and took necessary precautions,,
even changing his car and methods to reduce the risks
of being identified or caught...
So I ask,, why would that man then go on to post letters
and a tape of his his voice from his own home town..
Well the answer to that is,,,his behaviour suggests this person
did not wish to be caught,, he is very unlikely be so stupid as to
to tell them where he lived,, or give them a tape of his voice...
The very facts of the case indicate that
he did everything he could to avoid capture..
That the search for the Geordie failed when he should have
been identified in days are consistent with the profile one can
see,,, a killer who did not wish to be caught tricked them and
lead them away from himself...
Damm sure I would not have posted those letters from my home town,,
They were an obvious false lead,, but nevetheless,, that voice should
have been identified and lead Police closer to the killer...
It is hard to blame the cops for chasing after it...
Looking at it again...
Applied Logic suggests another answer to me..
The failed Sunderland hunt,,,
the Marilyn and Maureen clues..
plus the nature of the man's mission,,
plus fear of capture,, the escalating manhunt,,
desire to outwit the cops,,
a serial killers natural caution and desire not to be
caught...
The motives and clues are all there and suggest that a serial killer
who killed three girls to convince cops his letters were genuine,,
simply went on to the next step,, to persuade a Sunderland man
to read a message into a tape machine,, and then killed him too..
It is quite simple logic,,, the letters and tape pointed to the NE,,
testimony of surviving victims pointed in the opposite direction..
South West towards Manchester....
Where that annoying fiver was found,,
that guided the investigation straight back to Yorkshire,,
NW away from Manchester and onwards to Sunderland...
Another indicator of his origins might be that the Ripper
quite obviously was selecting different target areas in response to
increased risks,, so why did he never kill in Sheffield,,??
Once again,, if you consider a killer whose home base was
in the Manchester area,, an explanation is available...
The Peak district is in the way,, there are no direct motorway links,,
it could be that travelling to Sheifield was outside his distance..
Stuart Kind made a geo study of the Rippers areas,,
(without including the letters and tape),, about the only useful observation
he made was that Leeds tended to be the late flyers as he called them...
Once again consistent with a travelling killer from the general area
indicated by the two girls best able to say, (Maureen and Marilyn) ..
NOT LOCAL MAYBE LIVERPOOL,,,
The 1978 letters even suggested Liverpool or Manchester next... !!
There are a number of indicators to suggest the killers true origins
I believe that the Yorkshire fiver was left for that very purpose..
Leading the police away..
I am convinced that it was,,,
and once again finding the origin of the killer is a simple
matter of reversing the clues volunteered by a serial killer,,
and paying more attention to his lucky survivors....
That he lived in the opposite direction from
where he lead the cops is a childishly simple idea..
That the tape cost another life is not unreasonable either,, not
when you consider that convincing the cops his letters were genuine
had already cost three girls their lives...
It is the brutally simplistic
logic of killing innocent victims in the process of a game
with the cops that is hard to grasp..
I suggest that one considers the pattern
of an 1888 Jack Ripper remake again,, the way it started,,
and then mushroomed into a collosal manhunt after Jayne was killed..
They would never stop looking for him after that,,
fear of capture, mixed with his original motives,,
the Ripper case evolved over five years...
.........................................................................
Maureen Long,, miraculously, survived to describe him and his car
and it was five months before he risked Yorkshire again, in a different car..
It was during this period that the first Manchester attack occurred
Scotch Jean or Jean Royle,, three months after Mrs Long....
The facts regarding the first Yorkshire Ripper attack outside of Yorkshire
(Preston had not been attributed at that time) are rather curious...
A brand spanking new fiver was found,, it had been issued only days earlier
from a West Yorkshire Bank,, a Bingly bank in the heart of Ripperland...
George Oldfield believed he was after a local man at that time and he is
on record,,,"Chummy is not going to leave a bloody fiver" he said..
His statement reflects that he understood the careful calculated
nature of his quarry quite well..
Something I agree with completely and try to impress on others here...
If anything ,,
I think George underestimated the craft and devious calculation involved..
No brand new notes had been found on any of the other victims,,
but on this one victim,, the first Ripper victim outside of Yorkshire,,
a brand new fiver was was found,, this is the thing I find curious,,
especially as it lead Police directly back to Ripper Central in Yorkshire..
Also coming at a time where logical prudence suggests it would
be an unwise risk to kill again so soon in Yorkshire,,
this death in Manchester occurs,, and a brand new fiver from Yorkshire was found....
It's a bit too cute,, bells are ringing here,,...
Moreover,, the bag was found some distance from her body,,
other monies were missing but the nice new fiver remained..
It is recorded that her bag was found later,, by a passer by,,
who handed into the Police after her body had been discovered..
One wonders why the Police did not find the bag during their
original search of the area,, they appear to have been very thorough
at other crime scenes..
Mysteriously,, the injuries to the body were not typical of other victims,,
described as having similarities and dissimilarities..??
Jeans body lay there for days,, it is said that the killer returned
and attempted to remove
her head with a hacksaw and failed...
It was suggested
that he lost his temper and then inflicted horrible mutilations on the body,, she was
slashed from shoulder to knee,,with additional injuries to her front,,
this information is recorded in books....
The actions of the killer at this crime scene were out of
pattern with the other victims..
He had not come back to a body like this before...
The events which occurred when he did return are horrific to consider...
I find this first strike outside of Yorkshire,,the hardest one to puzzle out,,
coming at a time when he (Blondie Chummy) and his car had been seen in Yorkshire,,
followed by a lull of activities in Yorkshire,,
followed by this first kill in another area,
but with a fiver that lead directly back to Yorkshire, (Ripper Central)..
As with most stories concerning Sutcliffe,, the version we
are familiar with today may be subject to much embroidery...
Here is a Pre-Sutcliffe record concerning Jean Jordan and
that Five Pound note,, and her bag..
http://s867.photobucket.com/albums/ab239/rupert-bear-2010/Offbeam%20Images/?action=view¤t=PreSmuttyFiver.jpg
It could be that he/they found a way to proceed where it was less risky,,
and yet still connect it with the Yorkshire killings, with the fiver...
Only it went wrong,,,, the body/fiver was not found and he had to go back
in a bad mood..
